Day
1 Leave Uyuni to visit Colchani, a small town where
the people carry out the exploitation and refinement of salt,
and start crossing Uyuni Salt Flats, located at 11,992 feet
above sea level, the horizon disappears when one gazes out
over this desert of salt, fading into the volcanic cones
of the Western Andean cordillera. The extension of this natural
wonderful is 4,086 square miles of salt flat. It’s
believed that the salt flat contains 19 billion tons of salt,
a magnificent deposit of “white-gold” that in
certain areas reaches up to 26 feet in depth. Maybe Uyuni
is the only place on Earth with an island surrounded bay
salt instead of water, like a calm salt sea. Known as the
Isla Pescado (Inkawasi), or Fish island, it’s a piece
of rocky land in the middle of a white ocean, which bloom
hundreds of giant cactus, the only vegetation able to grow
within thousands of square miles. Continue to San Cristobal
Town. Lunch and dinner. Overnight at Hotel San Cristobal
Day 2 Breakfast.
Visit the new town of San Cristobal, important place due to the
silver mining center which will be ready to start work by the
beginning of 2007 year. In this town the native people started
to developed the participative tourism, working a few projects
to visit and learn about the activities near the area. Other
attraction of San Cristobal is the church, which was moved from
the original place at 7.5 miles away. The town was also moved
because it was originally settled over the silver mine. You will
also see the new models towns of the high plateau: Alota, Culpina
K and the Rock Valley. Return to Uyuni. Lunch and dinner. Overnight
at Hotel Toñito
Day 3 Breakfast.
Depart Uyuni on your own
Note: Due
to the rainy season in Bolivia, but mainly from January first
to February 28th. this tour changes, the salt lake sills with
water touring it in lagoon projecting it self as an immense mirror
refracting the beautiful sky and it seems you are flying. In
those months it is not possible to visit Isla Pescado (Fish Island).
