Uyuni Salt Flat

More than 10,000 years ago this region was home to a giant lake, the Michín, which occupied a large part of the actual southwestern Bolivia side. When it dried, it formed two large salt deposits, the Uyuni and Coipasa. The most interesting attraction is, without question, the Uyuni salt flat due to its boundless beauty. At 11,992 feet above sea level, the horizon disappears when one gazes out over this desert of salt, fading into the volcanic cones of the western Andean cordillera. The extension of this natural wonderful is 4,086 square miles of salt flat. It’s believed that the salt flat contains 19 billion tons of salt, a magnificent deposit of “white-gold” that some areas reaches up to 26 feet in depth. Maybe Uyuni is the only place on Earth with an island surrounded bay salt instead of water, like a calm salt sea. Known as the Isla Pescado (Inkawasi Island) or Fish island, it’s a piece of rocky land in the middle of a white ocean, which bloom hundreds of giant cactus, the only vegetation able to grow within thousands of square.

Pulacayo Mining Center

Just 19 miles from Uyuni’s tourist town, we locate the Mining Center Pulacayo (The great Red Mine), this sited an important chapter in Bolivian History. Pulacayo in other times was known from it's silver production, showing itself as the first Mining City of Bolivia. The Pulacayo exploitation began in 1534, time of the Spanish Colony, reaching their maximum level of exploitation in the XIX century. This town was the first City of Bolivia, today it is almost deserted, only a few inhabitants continue living at this place which is one of the coldest town in Bolivia. This area makes part of the Bolivian History, their streets, homes and their Mine: Paisano Hill. Pulacayo Mining Center was the first to receive an english locomotive in Bolivia called “Union”. Locomotive that was attacked by the famous American bandits Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid, when the mineral was transported to Antofagasta Chilean Port. With Union locomotive, another three machines with different designs, mostly made in England, arrived towards the beginning of the XX century, now these locomotives are in the old train Station of Pulacayo. Even now these locomotives remain, included the first one that arrived in Bolivia on 1890, it’s very small just 3 feet, like a toy. Each one has their enchainment for their age, like the ones that appear in western movies; people identify these pieces and value them. For this reason and many other Pulacayo Town and Mine are waiting for you.

Avaroa National Park

In South Bolivia you will see one of the most singular experiences in the Andean desert: National Reservation of Andean fauna Eduardo Avaroa with extraordinary lagoons, some spectacular geysers, geothermal wells, rocks in surprising forms on a 4.467 square miles surface. On the Red Lagoon we find thousand of flamingos, it has a surface of approximately 38 square miles and an altitude of 14.651 FEET above sea level. The Green Lagoon dazzles for its incredible colors of water, similar to a gigantic emerald that changes tone during the whole day with the wind, very near the lagoon we appreciate the Licancabur volcano (19.246 feet above sea level). We also visit Geysers “Sol de Mañana”, lava boils in craters and the fumaroles emit mixed vapors with such a pressure that they reach heights from 10 to 15 meters and they sprout to a temperature of 270 Fahrenheit minimum. It is also said that this place is the home of devils for the altitude and the abundant scent to sulfur. But this magic experience does not finish here, the horizon disappears when one gazes out over this desert of salt, fading into the volcanic cones of the Western Andean cordillera. The extension of this natural wonder is 4,086 square miles of salt marsh. It’s believed that the salt marsh contains 19 billion tons of salt, a magnificent deposit of “white-gold” that un certain areas reaches up to 26 feet in depth. We don’t have any more to say, come with us and enjoy the magic experience of this amazing place.

The combination Northern Chile and Southern Bolivia is perfect for adventure lovers and natural magic of the earth. Northern Chile's monumental landscape is represented by the Atacama Desert, a beautiful Coastline of lonely beaches and the Altiplano, habitat of an indigenous population of ancestral cultures. Between the coastal mountain range and the Andes Mountains, is located the Atacama Desert, the driest one on the planet. Its geography is unique and includes lagoons, volcanoes, salts flats, geysers, hot springs, rivers and ravines, together with a large widespread Spanish legacy of XVI century churches and saltpeter deposits. The Aymara Indians are the descendants of America's original culture. Geysers of Tatio, classified as one of the highest geothermal fields in the world.
